An end-to-end platform for evaluating and improving LLM applications with a focus on data quality and model performance. braintrust.dev ↗
Braintrust is a well-regarded eval-first observability platform that tightly couples production tracing, dataset versioning, and CI/CD regression gating in a single workflow. Its Brainstore purpose-built AI-trace database is a genuine differentiator on query performance, and its no-per-seat pricing model is attractive for large teams. However, the platform is positioned as a quality measurement and improvement tool, not a runtime governance or request-path enforcement layer, which leaves a gap for enterprise teams needing policy guardrails at inference time. Self-hosting is gated behind the Enterprise tier (opaque pricing), data retention on lower tiers is very short (14-30 days), and the core platform is closed-source despite MIT-licensed SDKs. The $80M Series B in early 2026 signals investor conviction, but also raises the question of whether the product roadmap will remain developer-friendly or pivot toward higher-margin enterprise features.
