Researchers analyzed rollout of GitHub Copilot across three tech companies (Microsoft, Accenture, anonymous Fortune 100) and found that access to the AI coding assistant raised output by 26% on average. Junior and newer developers realized significantly larger gains (27-39%) than senior developers (8-13%), and adoption lagged at around 60% after one year despite the tool's ease of use. The study measured task completion rates but did not assess code quality, leaving unresolved whether productivity gains reflect genuine capability acceleration or task inflation.
